Frequently asked questions
Will carpet seams be visible?
When installed by professional carpet installers, most of our carpets can be installed with seams that will be virtually unnoticed. Some seams may be slightly visible based on the color and style selected. In general terms, lower pile height carpets (less thickness) will tend to show more seams. Within our product line, only loop pile carpets would fit into the category of lower pile height carpets.
What type of pad do we recommend for your carpet?
The CRI (Carpet and Rug Institute) has a full set of recommendations. For cut pile carpet, we recommend a pad with a maximum thickness of 1/2″ and a minimum density of 6 pounds per cubic feet. For loop pile carpet, we recommend a pad with a thickness of 3/8” and a minimum density of 6 pounds per cubic feet.
How long will my installation take?
The average job usually takes 1 to 2 days to complete, however there are multiple factors that will change the installation time. Your salesperson will go over the complete installation process with you at the time of ordering.
How should I prepare for installation?
The cleaner the area is upon our arrival, the better the service can be. Please clear away any furniture, clothing, clutter, cleaning supplies, and other such items from the floor and counter space around the work area (including the bottom shelf of pantries and closets).
Do I have to move my furniture?
We can move furniture at a cost to the customer, which would be talked over with your salesperson.
How should I prep if Sunwest is moving your furniture for you?
If you have selected “moving furniture” as part of your services please clear away all the knick knacks from off the tops of dressers and tables, from in drawers, etc. We will help move things like beds, dressers, etc. Any type of “bigger” furniture (i.e. pool tables, pianos, etc) will be an additional cost and must be discussed beforehand.
Should I remove / relocate electronics and appliances?
Please remove/relocate any electronics, computers, tv’s, etc. If any such items are not removed and relocated prior to our arrival, we are not responsible for any damage caused during the installation process and we do not reinstall any such items.
Remove and relocate any appliances, toilets, fridges, dishwashers, washers, dryers, etc. prior to our arrival. If we are asked to help move any such items, we can not be held liable for any damage caused, including damage to plumbing pipes and connections or subsequent water damage. We do not reinstall any such items. If any such items are not removed and relocated prior to our arrival, we are not responsible for any damage caused during the installation process. If we are asked to repair said water lines, we do not guarantee the fix and it must be inspected or properly repaired by a plumber.
Does my new flooring come with a warranty?
The answer is yes, most flooring does have a warranty on the material. We also have a 1 year warranty on installation.
Do you have a cancellation fee?
We have a $75 cancellation fee if you cancel your project after the work has been scheduled. If for some reason the project isn’t ready on the day it’s scheduled we can not guarantee the following day(s) to be available. You will have to take the next available spot on our schedule.
When is final payment due?
Final payment is due at completion of service.
When can I schedule subs or others coming after Sunwest?
Please schedule enough time in between subs or others coming before and after us. Sometimes there are unseen items that can arise after we begin installation that may add more time to the project. It’s better to have extra time than not enough.
Do I need to remove my baseboards during (hardwood, laminate,LVP) installation? What floor prep is needed during these installs?
If your job is new construction the baseboards are usually installed after we do the flooring, during remodel jobs we will have to remove and reinstall baseboards. There usually is some floor prep needed on the installation of these materials which would be talked about with your salesperson.
Is Sunwest responsible for damage to baseboards, toe-kicks, etc.?
While we do our best to use caution during the process, we will not be held responsible for the damage that occurs while removing the baseboards, toe-kicks, etc. We offer a service of removing and renailing the baseboards. Homeowners will be responsible for caulking, painting and any “touch up” needed afterwards.
What type of vacuum should I use on my new carpet?
The carpet and rug Institute has a list of vacuums they consider to be too aggressive for most types of carpet. They also have a list of recommended types, which can be found at https://carpet-rug.org/soa-vacuums/.
What is the difference between laminate and LVP?
Laminate floors are a hybrid floor covering consisting of a particleboard wood base topped by an image layer and a transparent wear layer.Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring provides a realistic wood and stone look using 3D printing technology to mimic the texture of the real thing. It’s a water-resistant and low-maintenance material available at a cost-effective price point that will last for many years
